Post If only so-and-so had done...
Spielberg has said often that the genesis of Indiana Jones was that they wouldn't let him make a Bond movie. Given the era Steve was talking about, it would have starred Roger Moore, and thus would have been the FINEST BOND MOVIE EVER! So which other filmmaker would you have liked to cross genre boundaries? Should Martin Scorsese have taken a crack at Superman? Do you pine for Yuen Woo Ping's unmade nouvelle vague masterpeice? Would you like Hitchcock to have got an Oscar for Dial M for Mothra? Have at it!

I'd like to see a kaiju-eiga directed by Ching Siu-Tung or a Full Contact-era Ringo Lam.

EDIT: It'd only be obvious to see a slasher film directed by Wong Kar-Wai.

I wish we'd have had James Cameron doing a Superman movie. He was involved with Spider-Man for a time, and the treatment he wrote wasn't too bad, but I think Cameron's usual epic scale and bombast are pretty much tailor-made for Superman.

Reading the Stomps' review of Godzilla: Final Wars makes me pine for two Godzilla movies directed by Hideo Nakata and Takeshi Shimizu.

I think Needham was up for a Bond flick, too. That would have been worth it for the blooper reel during the closing credits alone on in Live and Let Die. Dom DeLuise as Blofeld? C'mon. Who wouldn't want to see that?

Bond is a fertile source of these things. What if Moore, Dalton or Brosnan took the role when first offered? What if they HAD case (good lord) James Brolin in Octopussy, or Redford or Neumann earlier?

Not really genre crossing at all but : Joss Whedon- Wonder Woman. I'm pretty sure he is the only person who could have made a WW movie work. Will always wonder what could have been.

I actually would have liked to see what Sam Neill did with The Living Daylights.

Miike is still working, and I'd like to see what he does with either Matango or some of the better-known Shirley Temple vehicles.

BTW -- Dial M For Mothra is a concept far, far beyond genuis. I doff my chapeau to your brilliance, BSH.

Cliffie, a Takeshi Miike remake of Matango is pure brilliance. There's no way it wouldn't be an interesting film.
