It could be made by the idiots who made Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. That would be much, much worse than GINO.

I just want a divorced county sheriff with a chequered past but a heart of gold to have to take on Godzilla after he starts stomping on horny teens. Is that so wrong?

Regarding this news, I'll believe it when I see it.

Actually, it'd probably be just Tokyo: SOS, but it'd be too dark to see anything, the soundtrack would be made up entirely of cribs from previous movies despite there being a credited composer, and that punk who has to fix Kiryu would be named Serizawa for no Goddamned reason.

Based on the news listed so far, the prospect of a new Godzilla movie is still many years in the future. I, meanwhile, have yet to see Coraline.

I am skeptical of any US production company taking on the Big G!

Skeptical about it being any good, or about it actually happening? Because I'd be shocked if this thing actually got made.

Hmmm....I guess I need to ask a question....

Are you a kaiju "old school" or ""new school" fan? Let me define the terms: Old School = one who appreciates the miniatures and 'guy-in-a-rubber-suit' effect shot through high speed camera or New School = one who appreciates digital effects.

My point being...Toho (hopefully) would make it "old school" while Hollywood would attempt "new school." Maybe I may have my terms wrong but I think you get my drift.

Personally, I am in favor of a combination of both if it can be done with skill, care, and grace...and a profound adoration for the artform from which it arose.....(now I rise and salute...)

But who? Who?....(tears streaming down my face......) and who is sick of my "..." crud!

Ah, so you've missed all of my previous drunken, hate-filled tirades against CGI. I'm definitely your old-school style fan. I can probably count on my fingers the number of movies whose CGI effects didn't make me shake my head in disappointment.
I agree with you that it should be used to augment effects, not as the effects itself. Unless you're going to take the time and care to make it look like Jurassic Park, it's just not worth it.
When the 1998 Tristar travesty was announced, I hoped against hope that the Godzilla we were getting was going to be basically a Stan Winston studios animatronic version of the Heisei Godzilla suit. That would be amazing, and sadly, it will probably never happen now. If we get an American kaiju, it's pretty much a certainty that it's going to be realized via N64 graphics.

Huh. I have a hard time believing that Toho would let there be another Americanized version after 1998. And I honestly don't think there's a chance in hell of it being any good if they do.

I have to go along with this. Unfortunately.

Odds are the movie will blow. Our only hope is that it doesn't turn out worse than that crap in 2000 with Broderick.

There's a much more recent Godzilla thread; this one was more than six months old. I mean, good if you have something new to bring to the table, but without a significant contribution, it might be best to let dead threads lie, I'm thinking.

True, but he did amuse me by rteminding me that back in August of 2009, I said that this film would have "100% less Yoshimitsu Banno." Little did I know I'd be eating those words when I discovered that Banno is onboard as a producer. So, maybe more like 75% less Yoshimitsu Banno.

Rats...I hate that Brother Rag will be right.
I'm old school myself, with just enought GOOD CGI to sweeten the deal.
(Sigh) Oh well, I can dream can't I?
