The Asylum Ent. has just recently announced their remake of the classic 1975 film which was originally directed by Kevin Conner. For anyone unfamiliar with it details and several posters can be seen here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073260/
This new version will be directed by C. Thomas Howell is set for release on July 28th. More details can be found here:
http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2009....ns.html
As well as the trailer for the original here:
http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/31022/the-remake-that-time-forgot
I've been talking this one up for quite some time now as we've been anxiously awaiting a first look at the film. Now that has finally arrived in the form of a few pics that have been released to us exclusively that give us a glimpse of some of the characters/actors and a dino from the film:

I really hope that last still indicates the dinosaurs are still woefully inept rubber puppets instead of woefully inept CGI...

Too bad the new one isn't directed by Kevin Costner.

Dude, I like a painful-to-watch film as much as the next fella, but I draw the line at Dances With Dinosaurs.

I saw the article and mentioned it in the grab bag thread a while ago, but somehow I missed the fact that Asylum is behind it. Dammit, I had some high hopes for this, too. I realize even without the Asylum's attachment those hopes were probably delusional, but I love the original so much I just wanted justice done to it.

I'd like to see justice done to the novels. Sure, they're ridiculous, but they're also the one time Burroughs came up with something a little more involved than "Displaced Southern gentleman pines for spunky, naked cave-girl while dodging prehistoric monsters and punching savages of one sort or another in the face."

I should really look those up. Let me guess, they go for a hundred bucks a pop because they've been out of print for fifty years, right?

Nope. Looks like you can get all three for just 13.95 from Amazon. Or you could try your local library, that's how I read it.

But that is a DARN fine story in itself.

Well, there's the John Carter series, which is about a refined Southern gentlman who pines for a spunky, naked Martian girl while punching other martian races in the face.

Okay, it's a bad sign when the tag line is asking the audience if they know what's going on.

"It's not WHERE they are...It's WHEN?"

You tell me, poster art. You tell me.

And it somehow makes me think of a comedy...with dinosaurs. So yeah, LAND OF THE LOST under an assumed name.
