Music from composer Justin R. Durban, including the score to the Turkish horror film, Semum.

Dr. John's new release, which is real fine New Orleans funk, as you'd expect.

Reggie Watts was suddenly brought to my attention in waves, first as the musical director on the new IFC show "Comedy Bang Bang" (which wasn't all that great, but I liked Reggie's musical interludes and affable personality), and then I heard some great intro/outro music on a Jim Gaffigan comedy special called "Mr. Universe" and it ended up being Reggie Watts again! So I seeked him out on YouTube and found this fantastic little piece of music that was equal parts Bobby McFerrin and Marvin Gaye, with the deft, on-the-fly mixing that only a true prodigy possesses.

I really like this guy, as you might have guessed. I might have to search him out next time he's doing something live in NY.

Taking a big break from Bluegrass - listening to Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz. It's so damn cool in the room now, I turned off the air conditioner.

William Shatner (I think) reading the lyrics to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.

My last purchase was from Big Sam's Funky Nation, another New Orleans funk band. The Big Easy does a few things better than anyplace.

Alice Cooper's School's Out - Vincent Furnier had a hard time deciding whether to be a rock singer or a broadway musical composer, didn't he.

Fun fact: Alice actually recorded two songs for a proposed Broadway musical based around a Flash Gordon parody/homage character called "Flash Fearless," released on the album Flash Fearless vs. the Zorg Women. The songs were "I'm Flash" and "Space Pirates." I like the songs (the bass on both tracks is provided by John Entwhistle of The Who, and Alice playing with even one member of The Who is like a dream come true for me), but I'm not entirely sure how well they'd work as big Broadway production numbers.

The 49-hour-long audiobook of A Dance With Dragons. I have the feeling I'm going to need to renew the library loan a couple of times before I finish it.
