Reminds me of something I heard on the Word Balloon interview podcast, where they were discussing the behind the scenes goings on for that MTV Computer Animated Spider-Man series that tied into the movies. Apparently, one of the MTV execs actually asked why Spider-Man had be spider-themed, and couldn't they do something else?

Similarly, I think the first question Ang Lee was asked when he was in talks with the Universal execs was, "Does the Hulk have to be green?"

Well, I suppose he could have been gray instead. Plus, there was that one annual in the late 80's/early 90's where the colorist made him sort of a faintly purplish brown for some unfathomable reason...

The Corman-backed Vampirella film is pretty lame, but I always give it points for being pretty tight with the original Warren magazines source material, story-wise...even if the budget and performances weren't up to par.

unfortunately, the source material is such a damn mess that the film is nonsensical.

to me, Elektra was a good female superhero film. It has some neat acting and some good effects and Jenn Garner looks great as Elektra. It's not as terrible as many ppl are making it out to be.

You're funny. I like you. I'll kill you last.
Er... <shakes out of Schwarzenegger mode>
It had some moments, and I enjoyed it, but I'm aware enough of objective quality that I don't think I could call it a "good" movie. Still, it's a heck of a lot better than most "superheroine" movies we get. That's more a statement about the dearth of material rather than the quality of Elektra.

While I like Jennifer Garner enough to give Elektra a pass, it doesn't feel particularly superhero-y. It's like somebody sprung a budget for a remake of Ninja 3 but without the neon and big hair, with Terence Stamp in the Sho Kosugi role.

I rather liked Elektra because it was extremely silly and ridiculous yet took itself so seriously that it became downright grim.
