New trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man

Looks like it could be a sweet flick, I just have to get past that glossy Spider-Man costume.

I'm really not that interested in this movie--I've never been a huge Spider-man fan for some reason (yeah, I'm the one)--but that looked decent. It's ironic that this supposedly "darker" and "edgier" Spider-Man is the one that seems to be giving us the wisecracking Spidey who was missing from the Raimi movies. I'm really not crazy about the emphasis on Peter's parents and their secret life (and yes, apparently that is a big part of the movie), and I'm not seeing how they get a whole movie out of the Lizard as villain, but if I can pretend this isn't a reboot and instead just a screwy-continuity sequel with a new cast, it might be entertaining.

So they have Odious Comic Relief in the form of President "Tina Fey Wouldn't Return Their Calls". There's "relevant", there's "dated", and then there's "out of synch quicker & harder than neon leg-warmers".

In the midst of this re-boot will there be any nods toward the Raimi films for continuity. Basically, since Oscorp is going to figure big into this, will the movie insinuate that Norman and Harry are alive again or do they, as they seem to be doing with Mary Jane Watson, just not exist in this go round? I am ambivalent one way or the other, but I am psychically preparing myself for the barrage of fanboy whining.

Oddly enough, comic book movies are uniquely suited for reboots, remakes, and different takes on a given character. Depending on what the writer and editor agree on for a year's run on a title, you can get results as varied as "Superman is killed, mourned by the world, and returns after four pretenders to his legacy show up again" and "Superman gets depressed and walks across America for some reason after a woman yells at him". Who's to say that Norman and Harry Osborn are alive, dead, or just not important to the story in the forthcoming Spider-Man movie? The story and the continuity are just going to depend on what the writer, actors, director and other creative staff decide to make.

Well, it's a step up from the first Avengers trailer but sorry, I'm still horribly underwhelmed by everything I've seen of this flick. A big budget movie about "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" should not be that bland looking.

Ya know, after awhile, massive comic book carnage is hard to get jazzed about. Too much of a good thing...
Sad, really.

But, these guys have the right approach, methinks.

Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it's a Batman Begins-style reboot, i.e. they're going back to the very earliest days of the character to tell a story that may or may not be necessary from a narrative perspective, but will make continuity-hounds happy. In this case, it's "Peter Parker's high school days." I imagine they're going to establish Gwen Stacey in this one, then kill her off and introduce Mary Jane in the next one.

Which is fine, though it smacks of dragging things out for the sake of completeness and franchisability.

I will be utterly surprised if the movie studio has Gwen Stacy's death. If you are spending a crapload of money on effects, etc for this franchise. There is already going to be a crapload of death already, withe inevitable re-killing of Uncle Ben, probably the untimely death of both of Parker's parents, then you kill off the one romance. That smacks of box office poison. The Dark Knight got away with it because, well, damn, who didn't die or get seriously maimed in that hellish version of Gotham. But I don't think Spiderman could survive doing that. Hell, you also have the death of Captain Stacy, too.

Trailer for "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World", an apocalyptic romantic comedy starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, as two people who take a road trip during the world's last few days before it's destroyed by an asteroid, and wind up finding love with each other.

My money's on the movie does not end with the world blowing up. Still looks funny, though.

Unlike the last time Knightley faced impending death (Never Let Me Go), that looks hilarious.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter looks to take itself seriously for a nice change of pace

The concept of Lincoln, a man known to battle inner demons fighting outer ones, actually worked rather well in the book. Nice weaving of fact & fantasy

The title alone makes me think...actually It make me cross my eyes and reach for another beer. Not that that's a bad thing.

new trailer for The Pirates:Band Of Misfits - and this one gives a better idea of where this is going, with traditional Aardman loopy humour intact :D

plus check out the voice cast - Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Salma Hayek and Brian Blessed are involved.

Going to a preview of this next week, under its not-America title Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. Because we're not put off by the S-word :)
