This is the first time I've ever seen a film whose trailers warranted trailers.

There's another trailer from the UK that shows a bit more but still manages to be completely spoiler free.

Trailer for Chernobyl Diaries, another horror film with teens going to places they shouldn't, and generally acting like giant asses, before they get killed.

Official full length trailer for Prometheus.

They played that at the theater where Juniper and I saw John Carter the weekend before last. I suddenly found myself halfway wanting to see a movie that had previously elicited from me no reaction more favorable than, "Haven't you bastards already done enough?!"

It's nice to know I'm not alone here in the corner that thinks this looks like a really well-executed terrible idea.

I meant to review A Dangerous Method a while back after seeing it, but I ultimately didn't. Partly because I had trouble making up my mind at first, and then because it hurt too much to admit that Cronenberg had delivered, not just a disappointment, but a BLAND disappointment. Seriously, think "Cronenberg movie about Freud". That movie is none of those awesome things you just imagined. It's basically a standard biopic with some kinky sex scenes that would be edgy if it were anyone but Cronenberg. The only truly weird element is Knightley's performance, but not in a good way. I don't want to rag on it too hard, it's not BAD, but it's part of a downward arc of quality that Cronenberg's been going through since he moved towards the mainstream with A History of Violence.

Well, guess what? It looks like he's back to being weird again. With the sparklevampire no less.

Totally insane action film coming our way!

Here's some clips from The Raid.
Quote:
Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission. Director Gareth Evans (Merantau) and rising martial arts star Iko Uwais reunite in this adrenaline-fueled action film.

Trailer for the second Berserk theatrical movie. (NSFW) Japanese with no subtitles, unfortunately.

The CGI / Cel-animation mix still looks a little off, but other than that: the "Guts vs. 100 mercenaries" fight (hopefully with out all the "EVERYBODY RUN AT HIM ONE AT A TIME!" that the TV series take had) , the throwdown with the General, awesome new music by Susumu Hirasawa. I'm liking what I'm seeing.

For some reason I Youtube-d the original Alien trailer the other day and noticed a no-so-peculiar similarity between it and the Prometheus trailer.

The Total Recall remake gets a trailer...for its trailer...

http://www.imdb.com/list/TB56Gm1AqRw/#play-all

We do get our first glimpses, but seriously, the fact that we're now getting trailers for trailers worries me.

Looks almost like it could be a trailer for a Minority Report sequel.

Aren't trailers for trailers known as...teasers? Are we not using the word teaser anymore?

No, not in this case. A teaser makes you interested in watching the movie. Its a short form advertisement. The ad, this time, says explicitly that I should GET READY FOR THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE TRAILER....

Which basically means that I should totally get psyched for watching the world premiere ... of an advertisement

But will it premier during "Russel Crowe's Fighting Round' the World"?

The newest Prometheus trailer had a teaser as well. Marketing for marketing.

But you know, if I don't get to the theatre in time to see the trailers I get annoyed. Trailers are a form of entertainment too I guess.

I don't know if I'm contradicting myself, but even though I hated the advert for an advert, I am a huge sucker for movie-based viral marketing - like the guy in Prometheus giving his speech, or the viral short subjects that generated good buzz for Blair Witch and Cloverfield. In fact, I would say that both of those movies displayed better ideas in their advance promotions than in the execution of their movies.
