I will be upgrading the board to the next version of phpbb this weekend (sometime beginning Friday night and no later than Monday morning), during which time the board will be inaccessible.

I don't know exactly when I'll get to it but it shouldn't take long, and afterwards I will re-enable the automatic approval of new users. The new upgrade allows for the installation of non-standard captcha mechanisms, which should be harder to defeat by spambots.

OK, I'll look into it tomorrow. If you want a speedier resolution, go check out the official PHPbb site and see if anyone else has the same problem. There may be a solution listed on their forums.

OK, so clearly we need to figure out how best to get avatars into the "gallery."

I know it's a pain to prohibit uploading of avatars by users but it's part of what has kept the BMMB a civilized place. I appreciate your patience as we figure things out.

Marlowe, could you PM me please with some info on how you uploaded those avatars? I'm trying to figure out why they worked previously but not after the upgrade.
