I'm bumping this thread to ask a question. Does anyone know what attitudes Asian audiences have towards their still highly-active horror cinema. I get the impression that the genre is somewhat less ghettoized over there. Anyone know anything about that?

I dunno if you're interested, but a book that does a fair job of chronicleing the history amd progress of J-, K-, V- and C-Horror is The History of J-Horror.

Goes from the paintings of women being ...held by Squids, to the most recent remakes in the US.
